The light never reaches past the den entrance, keeping the den cool. The ground slopes slightly down, turning from sandstone into a more dirt like ground. A few nests rest in the back. They are made of the softest feathers and grasses. A few claw marks are seen on the walls from the previous kits who have lived there.

Copperwhisker padded back in, tail still lashing as she trotted down the slope into the den and took a seat. She took a moment to groom her fur and wait for it to stop bristling before she padded back over to her nest. She nodded to Sandflower with a small smile, before nuzzling the three sleeping bundles of fur. She sat beside the medicine cat for a while without saying anything, before padding back into the nest and curling her form around the three little kits, wrapping her tail protectively over her litter and resting her head on her paws.
Dusttail padded into the noticeably cooler nursery treading carefully down the slight incline feeling slightly awkward being in the den. She felt out of place and awkward being here since the deputy had never really considered becoming a mother herself and hadn't been back in the nursery since she had lived in it herself as a kit. The dusty she-cat carefully picked her way over to the only used nest feeling terribly out of place despite the fact that only her close friend, the litter, and the medicine cat where present at the time. She purred in greeting and sat carefully beside the nest unsure for a moment if Copperwhisker was awake or asleep. "Hi Copperwhisker," She mumured quietly not wanting to wake the three small sleeping forms that were the kit. She shifted a little uncomfortably ready to simply leave if she needed to.

Copperwhisker lifted her head, her ears pricking at a sudden disturbance in the nursery. A purr rose quietly in her throat however as she picked out the lanky form of her oldest friend, Dusttail, making her way over. "Well look who came to visit." She said with a chuckle, her electric green eyed slanted warmly. "How did your time with Sorrelpaw go? I worry about her..." She trailed softly. She didn't need to say why, they both knew. "I miss the camp quite a lot... The patrols, the training... Do you remember when we used to have races across the desert? I was better in fast starts and speeds, but your long legs and stamina always matched me so we almost always tied." She stated with a warm purr, her eyes closing momentarily as she cherished the memory of two care-free apprentices tearing up the desert. "We certainly had good apprenticeships."
Dusttail chuckled when the firey queen commented on her visiting. "Yeah, I figured it was about time I came in to see you." A quiet purr rose in her throat making a note in her mind to come visit her dear friend more often even if the nursery made her feel awkward. Her purr faded out when the topic of Sorrelpaw and Waspfang came up. She heaved a heavy sigh and collected her thoughts before speaking. Her light green eyes a bit distant and clouded with suppressed anger. "Sorrelpaw is a great young she-cat and is a quite amazing hunter considering she is only just starting out in her apprenticeship....but she is having her confidence in herself completely destroyed by that...." She trailed off not able to think of an appropriate word to use because none that came to mind ever seemed to be quite right. The sandy brown she-cat sighed again not wanting to upset Cooperwhisker since the tom in question was the father to the queen's kits. She continued leaving the end of her last sentence open to interpretation and she was sure her old friend would be able to fill in the blanks after all she had grown up being the mediator between the Dusttail and the tom. "I gave her what advice I could though to cheer her up and I showed approval whenever I could." She shook her head unsure where the situation would go and hoped things would get better for the young cat but she knew that as long as Sorrelpaw was Waspfang's apprentice things were going to be hard.
When she thought about their time as apprentices together a smile creept back across her muzzle "I miss having you around to go on patrols with, camp doesn't seem quite right without you bouncing around brightening other's days." She sighed then chuckled as her thoughts went to the many races that were held between the dusty pelted deputy and firey pelted queen she shook her head missing the almost carefree times she had as an apprentice, some things had definitely changed since then. "You always were a quick one," she chuckled "but long legs and stamina win out for distance races." She purred at the memories "We always did push each other when training, you pushed me to get faster and I pushed you to try and run farther." She missed those days dearly things were easier then. The tensions between the clans had always been bad since they had been that way for generations but as apprentices they didn't know the details or the true depth to the tensions they simply picked up on them being there. She pushed the thoughts of longing away and focused on the moment she was in and spending time with her kithood friend. "So how are you and the kits doing?" She asked out so feeling like it was the proper thing to ask since she had never really asked about them before. "Also how are you really doing? Are you alright?" Like always Dusttail was concerned for her friend, not just because she was her clan-mate but because she was the closest thing that the deputy had to a sister since she had no litter-mates.
Seedkit yawns as she trots out of the den still sleepy. "I wonder where Tawnykit is," Seedkit said with slight worry. Seedkit had always been a fan of her siblings and when she couldn't find them she always worried.

Copperwhisker noted that Seedkit was up and about, and with a quiet purr she dipped her head to where the kit's siblings were sleeping against her side. "They're right here Seedkit, don't worry." She said comfortingly. "Oh Dusttail... They're doing very well I think. I'm not too sure about this whole mother business, but Sandflower has been helping me greatly. She thinks one of them could even become her next apprentice." She said with an appreciative purr. "And really? ...I'm doing alright. Things aren't much different than they ever were." But a shadow passed over the queen's bright gaze and her ears fell marginally as she spoke; her voice dropping to a soft hiss so as not to disturb the kits. "He's unhappy I only bore him one son... I think we are going to try again when the kits are close to apprenticeship." She admitted with a slightly worried look. "I worry he'll treat the she's like he does us, even his own flesh and blood.. Could I trust in you to help keep their spirits up, and let them know they are valuable?" Copperwhisker asked tentatively. Although she may not believe it for herself, she wanted her daughters to know that for certain.
Dusttail watched the kit with a slightly amused look before turning her attention back to Copperwhisker as the queen continued to speak. A haunted looked briefly flickered over her features when she mentioned trying for another litter so soon after the first just because she bore only one son in this one. Anger flared inside the deputy she hated that her dearest friend had fallen for such a rotten tom but she knew there wasn't anything she could say to change that, Starclan knows I've tried.... The anger inside of her was not directed at the red-tabby in front on her but at Waspfang. She could barely keep her voice from becoming a snarl when she spoke. "You are going to try so soon? What about returning to your duties as a warrior? You...you became a queen so soon after becoming a warrior..." Her anger faltered towards the end of her sentence she missed having her friend around and didn't want her to just be some queen stuck in the nursery with an ungrateful piece of crow-food as the father to her kits. As apprentices she had had so much potential to be a great warrior and the deputy had looked forward to being able to go on patrols with her.
The deputy sighed and tried to reign in her feelings about the situation into a more calm and composed mask, knowing well enough that the father of Cooperwhisker's kits would likely treat his daughters much the same as any other she-cat that around though there was a possibility they may get slightly better treatment but only ever so slightly. Her gaze softened as she looked at the queen and considered what she was asking and nodded "I will do everything I can to make sure they know they are valuable members, and warriors of the clan and not just meant to be queens like their father would likely lead them and you to believe," She paused and added "You do know you are valuable too, right? Not just as a Queen. You are truly a great warrior Copperwhisker. Don't let him make you feel like you are good for nothing but having kits." She looked down at her paws knowing that if things were as they should be ideally she wouldn't be having to tell her dear friend that but she knew things were far from ideal here and it needed to be said. If she listens to me though will remain to be seen...
A red she-cat poked her head in to the nursery entrance. She held her breath for a moment. You'll be fine. Just be polite and explain what you're doing. Sorrelpaw sighed and walked up to Copperwhisker's nest. It didn't look too messy, but it could use a little cleaning. "Uh, Copperwhisker?" the apprentice spoke in a meek voice. "Can I clean your nest for you? I'll try not to disturb you or your kits." She glanced up to meet the queen's eyes.

Copperwhisker listened to Dusttail's words, and warmth tainted by regret painted her heart as she looked down and gave her kits a quick lick. She looked back up as Dusttail continued speaking, her own brilliant green eyes taking in her stiffer stance and features as she held back a snarl, and her heart hurt for her friend. "I'll be alright Dusttail... It's only kitting. Queens have done it for moons and moons. After all, it's the least I can do for the Clan. After al, if we ever plan to take the plains, we need every paw we can get." She said in a joking tone, hoping it might lighten the weight of their conversation, even if only slightly. However, her humor failed to reach her eyes.
A genuine purr rumbled quietly in her throat as Dusttail promised to help watch over her kits. Her eyes shined with gratitude and she leaned up to touch her nose to the deputy's in a sign or appreciation and trust, her eyes misting slightly. "....Thank you Dusttail. That means the territories to me. And I, well...." She paused as she seemed to take on a confused and slightly upset look while she chewed over her words and tried to think of a reply, as Dusttail questioned if the queen knew her value or not. She felt torn as she thought hard for what she truly believe. With some derision, she realized she didn't quite know... She began to open her maw to reply to the deputy, but her ears swiveled as Sorrelpaw walked in right at that instance.
"Oh hello Sorrelpaw! And no you're fine, go right ahead. Can I help you at all?" Asked the queen pleasantly as she began to shift so she could reach her nest.
The deputy shook her head slowly and almost imperceptibly at the queen's joking tone, knowing she was just trying to lighten the mood a bit but she wasn't fooled by it at all. Though it was true queens had been kitting for countless moons it didn't make what Dusttail could see in her friend's future any better. She doesn't deserve to be stuck in the nursery all the time...she deserves time to actually be a warrior...though she is right about needing all the paws they could get if they were going to take over plains. She sighed but her mood lightened a bit and smiled slightly at her friend's meaningful gesture. "Please...Please consider taking some time between litters at least." She murmured quickly and quietly as she glanced up and noticed Sorrelpaw's entrance. The dusty colored she-cat studied apprentice carefully yet discreetly she and from her demeanor could immediately tell that her training session with Waspfang probably hadn't gone well. Not though any true fault of her's probably just the tom's backwards thinking and inability to be pleased.Dusttail smiled at the young red apprentice and dipped her head in greeting.

"I-I don't know. I just have to clean your nest. Waspfang's orders." Sorrelpaw immediately felt embarrassed for interrupting Dusttail and Copperwhisker's conversation. They obviously had been deep in talk before she had entered. Sorrelpaw tried not to look at them as she cleaned the nest. The apprentice took out some decayed leaves and tried to straighten up the nest a little. She couldn't help but smile at the kits. They looked so small and innocent. They didn't have to worry about much at all. I almost wish I was a kit again. That was only a few moons ago.

Copperwhisker twitched her whiskers quietly at Dusttail's words; her white tail flicking back and forth in upset agitation. She recognized her words, but honestly did not see it as a viable option for herself in the situation she was in. Whatever Waspfang wanted would end up being.
She turned to Sorrelpaw and her ears flattened in sympathy. She gently picked up her kits and set them aside, standing and turning to the apprentice with a kind smile. "Here, let me help." She said softly, before she began helping the apprentice to clean away the old bedding and roll it into a managable ball.
Dusttail stood and moved awkwardly out of the way her lean form taking up more room than she thought it did with the three she-cats being so near each other other in the one area of the den. She stood near one of the unused nests shifting on her paws uncomfortably. Her gaze traveled around the den before resting back on Copperwhisker the deputy noted the queen's agitation at her words and sighed quietly to herself. Knowing she was probably never get anywhere on the subject. The deputy kept careful control over the storm of clashing emotions inside herself. She didn't know if she would ever be able to truly sort them out.
The deputy watched the two she-cats quietly, feeling like she should maybe help but not really knowing how she could since changing bedding really didn't take that many paws to do. She glanced towards the way in and out of the nursery debating on leaving to give them more space but she honestly did enjoy talking to her friend and didn't want to leave things off the way they were. The sandy brown she-cat watched Sorrelpaw feeling sympathy for her but was unsure if she could say anything that would cheer her up so she stayed quiet unsure she would even be able to think of anything to say that would really help.
Glad for the help, Sorrelpaw dipped her head to Copperwhisker. "Thanks." She gathered up the old nest parts and pushed them towards the nursery entrance. "I'll be back soon with new bedding for you Copperwhisker." The apprentice left the den to get new nesting materials for the queen.
