Amberpool dipped her head appreciatively before getting to her feet, whiskers twitching. "Indeed. I'm definitely hoping to grab a roadrunner or two." She gave the leader a broad smile before turning to leave. "I better get going. These roadrunners won't catch themselves." Amberpool beamed, eyes sparkling as usual, tail raised high in the air. Displaying another swift dip of her head, she smiled and whipped around to continue on her way, treading toward the entrance.
Waspfang padded back in with Sorrelpaw, dropping the roadrunner and mouse onto the fresh-kill pile and looking to his apprentice, shaking his head ever so slightly and then padding off, noticing there was nothing more to do. He hated when he couldn't be busy.
Deciding he had grown very weary from the sun, anyway, he sat down in a patch of shade, sitting with his proud, tall posture as he always did and keeping his chin high. He twitched one ear at the few sounds of rustling he occasionally heard, still on alert and awaiting any call for a patrol, or truly anything. He felt useless.
Perhaps momentarily he would take Sorrelpaw, again, for some battle training. She could use it, as her reflexes were not as he would hope they were. Then again, she was a she-cat. He chuckled at his own thoughts, knowing she would never be at the level he would want her to. He had expected that as soon as she was made his apprentice, but had honestly had some hope for her in the very beginning when he noticed she was built well - rather lean and strong. She would make a good mother.
Dusttail sighed when it appeared everyone was just going out on their own today. After her meal she had settled into the shade to wait of Waspfang and Sorrelpaw to return so she could head out on her own hunting trip knowing that she probably should leave while so many were out or at least she wanted to see what they brought back so she knew if she should even go out on a hunting trip at all today.
When the warrior and his apprentice returned she flicked her tail seeing what they brought back, it was a decent catch but would be enough to feed the clan with as low as the fresh-kill pile already was. Looks like I will be heading out after all. The deputy rose onto her strong leanly muscled legs and glanced over at Waspfang as she passed her ear twitching with slight irritation, though the tom was her clanmate his pride and the way he treated she-cats as something lesser annoyed her to no end, since she was a she-cat and a deputy no less, it also reminded her or his father who had been the same way. Like father like son I suppose.... Pushing the thought out of her mind she settled down closer to the entrance to the tunnel that lead out of camp.

Sorrelpaw practically slunk into Fireclan. She felt so ashamed for disappointing her mentor. She had only been a kit a moon ago. Now she was an apprentice with responsibilities. She dropped off her rabbit at the fresh-kill pile, hoping it would do someone else some good. Waspfang seemed to be by himself, and for some reason, Sorrelpaw was glad about it. She found a shady spot near the apprentice den, hoping Waspfang would leave her alone for a while. The she-cat rested her head between her paws and sighed. What was she doing wrong? She caught three pieces of prey today. Yet, her mentor only found fault in her. She closed her eyes, hoping something else would occupy her mind.

Copperwhisker slid languidly out of the nursery with a yawn, her sharp fangs bared to the light as she freed her sharp curved daggers and stretched her long limbs. The red tabby sat in a ray of sun filtering in through the rocks, her pelt catching fire as the rays flickered off her coat. Her electric green eyes flicked over to where Dusttail stood looking conflicted, and she stood and trotted over, flicking the deputy's shoulder with her white tail-tip. "Hey Dusttail. How is everything today? Do you need me for any patrols? I can't tell you how useless I feel right now cooped up in that nursery." She said with a good-humored roll of her eyes. Her gaze took in Sorrelpaw sitting in the corner and she frowned sympathetically, pointing with her nose towards the young apprentice so Dusttail would look, as she dropped her voice. "Maybe you could take Sorrelpaw out yourself for a while? Even just a short walk would be very appreciated I think." She said kindly. She had grown up with Waspfang, and she knew how he could be, and how he could be perceived. With a final smile to her old friend, she turned and padded lithely across the Clearing and into the shade where Waspfang sat with his head lifted as proudly as ever. "Hey you." She teased as she flicked him with her tail-tip lightly, electric eyes sparking with humor as she sat beside him and wrapped her long tail neatly around her paws. "Still terrorizing the she-cats?" She chided with a smirk.
He glanced at her for only a second, his gaze turning back to the camp. He sighed a bit, his tail tip now twitching on the ground impatiently. "Perhaps soon they will learn to be more like you," he said, his voice holding a low rumble it didn't typically hold. And yet it still had that low, snake-like tint to it.
He looked at her again, studying all of her features, and brushed his tail against her chest up to her chin and tapped her nose, his eyes stony and cold. They almost matched her color - although his had more of a yellow hint in them. "Knowing their place in the nursery." He cocked his head slightly, his pupils dilated into claw-shaped black voids.
He stood up, walking around her with something akin to a proud strut, and brushed their fur together, stopping when they were nose-to-nose, whiskers almost touching. "But you adore me, no?" He said somewhat teasingly, with a sarcastically desperate voice. "Oh, how I only wish for love!" He smirked, placing his paw over his nose to hide his face in feigned distress, but not moving back once he put it down again.
The deputy glanced at Copperwhisker when she approached and smiled warmly at the queen "Hey Copperwhisker, things are well enough today." Dusttail chuckled when the she-cat mentioned going out on patrol, "No I think you are needed more in the nursery than out on patrol but thank you for asking and if anything changes I will let you know." amusement was clear in her bright green eyes but it faded when the red tabby queen brought her attention to Sorrelpaw and she couldn't help but feel sympathy for the young she-cat though she couldn't imagine what she was going through with Waspfang as her mentor.
The sandy brown she-cat nodded in agreement figuring it wouldn't hurt to take the apprentice out again with her even if she wasn't her apprentice. "Yes I think I will take her out with me." She smiled and dipped her head to the queen as she departed then stood and padded over towards the shade by the apprentice den where Sorrelpaw lay and spoke in a voice that was low enough not to carry but still would easily be heard by the younger she-cat. "You feel up to going out again?" She tilted her head leaving it all up to her knowing that if the apprentice was too tired it would do no good to take her out again. "I am sure that your mentor wouldn't mind if you came out with me." She flicked her tail not really caring if Waspfang did mind it the tom could deal with it.
The voice caused Sorrelpaw to open her eyes. She saw the deputy, Dusttail talking to her. She instantly lifted her head and sat up. "I'd love to go!" Sorrelpaw was just starting to get bored, but now she had something to do. I know I can make up for earlier. Surely I can! Maybe Dusttail will help Waspfang see that I'm not useless." Her heart felt heavy at the thought. She didn't want to be useless. "Are we going now?" she asked, trying not to sound too excited.
Dusttail chuckled at the apprentice's sudden enthusiasm glad that she could brighten up the bright red she-cat's gloomy mood. "If you are ready to go now yes we will be heading out now." She threw a glance up at the blazing sun which was quickly climbing in the sky.It will be hot just about anywhere we go but oh well I suppose we will just have to deal with it. Her green gaze returned to the younger she-cat and smiled in encouragement knowing that though she showed enthusiasm she must still be feeling a bit down about what ever had happened earlier. Hopefully this trip will boost her confidence. She streched her long legs out then murmured "So where do you think we should head out at this time of day?" The deputy wasn't ask like she was completely letting the apprentice choose since she could easily just pick and lead the younger cat wherever she please but she wanted allow Sorrelpaw a chance to use some of her knowledge and make a suggestion on where to go.
The apprentice tilted her head in thought. They had already visited the plains and the stream. The only place left that she could think of was the oasis spring. She had been there only once before, but she remembered the beautiful sight of running water and trees. Lizards, hares, and birds all came together for a taste of cool water. "Could we go to the spring? I know it's in the middle of the desert, but during this time of day prey would go there to drink. And it might be cooler there for us." She hoped that her answer was right, even though she knew there wasn't a right answer. Sorrelpaw just wanted to do something right today.

Copperwhisker was glad to see Dusttail reach out to Sorrelpaw and try to boost her confidence. She felt sympathy for the young apprentice, knowing she didn't understand Waspfang's harshness.
She watched Waspfang's antics with half-slanted eyes, her orbs bright flashing green slits. She twitched an ear as he tapped her with his tail; her own white tail-tip twitching slightly across her red paws as she rolled her eyes at his words.
She took on a playfully sweet and sarcastic tone as he spoke, her voice holding the hint of a purr. "Ohhh Waspfang, is there any cat stronger, smarter, more loyal, or humbler than you?" She purred in a mock-adoring voice as she teasingly wound her lithe form around his, brushing against his fur with her own flaming pelt before she stood before him again, her orbs sparkling with good humor the way they had since kithood.
He looked down at her, a smile that seemed almost genuine still looking like a mischievous smirk. "Ah don't worry, if I become leader I won't need this Clan's respect," he meowed, twitching one ear nonchalantly as he leaned in, his voice a hoarse, growling whisper. "Only their obedience."
He glanced toward Dusttail, his whiskers now twitching. "I see she feels the need to speak with my apprentice," he narrowed his eyes, but turned his focus back to Copperwhisker. It was something he did not care much for, nor about. He only feared she may try to spoil her mind with the ideas that one day, Sorrelpaw could be somehow useful to the Clan in any way other than being a queen.
"Sadly to say, no," he finally answered her mocking question, watching her as she slid about him. He crouched down a bit, unsheathing his claws and beginning to prowl toward her. "But when I am leader, as rightfully deserved, Kestrelkit will be ready to become my deputy. And you will stay by my side - for what is a ruler without his queen?" He kept moving toward her, a low, ambitious purr in his throat as he spoke of his future - one he was determined to make happen some day, and was beginning to think he may have to force to happen.
Dusttail thought for a moment after she listened to Sorrelpaw's suggestion of going to the desert spring. It was quite a journey to get there especially during the day since their territory would be blazing hot. It is one of the best places to go though aside from the dangers since it is a place we don't go to too often because of the location. The deputy smile and nodded in approval "Sounds like a good idea to me though the trek might be a bit of a hot one" She chuckled and motioned with her tail for Sorrelpaw to follow before heading towards the camp entrance throwing one last glance over at Waspfang and Copperwhisker rolling her eyes at the interaction. How her closest and oldest friend could stand to be around the arrogant tom she would never know. with one last flick of her tail she padded out of camp and throw the winding tunnel and into the scorched land beyond it.

Copperwhisker watched his antics in her usual amusement, her tail twitching as she watched him through slanted eyes. Sometimes his words really did send shivers through her pelt. He sounded so much like his father at times, and she knew it was just his influence, so she tried to shake it off. "How can you expect them to obey you if they don't respect you first? You could easily command respect Waspfang, you're a great warrior." she reasoned patiently. "And I'm glad Dusttail is. Some she to she time can be good for a growing apprentice. Help to balance out your hostility." She teased with a fond glint in her eyes.
"Hmm. Even as an apprentice you always had such ambition. I'm sure Kestrelkit would love to be deputy. And StarClan Waspfang; how many kits do you want!?" She laughed at his end queen remark, knowing quite well what he meant by it. She flattened her red tabby ears as he advanced however, backing slowly and fluffing her tail slightly as she watched his sudden mischievious mood swing advanced with sharpened claws, her electric emeralds fixed warily on him to determine his move, as she backed equally to his advancement.
He quickly sat back up again, regaining his calm composure and lifting his paw, sheathing the claws back and allowing his gaze to stay on his paw for a few more heartbeats, wondering exactly how much power it had if he felt the absolute need to use brute force. This made him glance toward nothing in particular, thinking. He had never been gifted with advanced strength - he could simply match an opponent.
His ambitions came back quickly and he pushed this thought away. It's not like he would be the only one fighting. His eyes settled again on Copperwhisker, and he purred at her alarmed stature. "Easy, now," he meowed teasingly. "Don't fret so much. I need you for my plans. And how many do I want?" He now changed his expression to a disappointed glare. "More than one tom."
He kept his hovering gaze on her for several heartbeats, then turned away, resting on his haunches and wrapping his tail neatly over his paws again. His seething hatred for Dusttail was something he did not voice to many, particularly only to Copperwhisker. She had robbed him of a position he was born for - his father had told him so as a kit. He was FireClan's rightful future leader.
"They will obey me because I will force them," he spoke after a long silence. "Obviously there may be uprisings at my lead - we both know I tend to have different views than the others." He now settled his snake-like gaze on her again, fixing his proud posture once more. "It will not be easy for them to respect me, but that's not important. What's important is that I show them exactly what happens if they don't listen."
