He got back to his paws, now walking with a high head and tail to the same patch of shadows he'd been sitting in for so long. He liked to be there, even though he would prefer to be doing something more useful. His eyes now burned into the entrance of camp as he waited for Sorrelpaw's return. When she came back, he would surely have her begin more battle training. She needs it, he snorted to himself.
He watched as a mouse scampered around the edge of a den, heading his way. He slammed his paw down on its tail before it escaped, watching it frantically try and pull from him. He leaned down, watching it squirm and chuckling. "Not the brightest, now, are you?" He said, letting it go with that paw and snatching it with the other. "I suppose that's why it's called mouse-brained." He looked back up, killing it cleanly beneath his paw and picking it up, setting it on the fresh-kill pile, then slinking back to the dark spot and putting all of his focus into his thoughts and awaiting Sorrelpaw's return.
Foxpaw brightened immediately at the sight of his mentor, Amberpool. The young tom's paws were already itching for more training. Swishing his thick tail over the red soil beneath him, Foxpaw watched his mentor for signs of her conversation to be over. His mother surely didn't raise a tom without manners. I hope we do more battle training today! He thought happily. The young tom's preference had always been rough housing and fighting, while he was a bit slow at hunting, a fact he scolded himself daily for. "Amberpool." He asked cautiously. "Can we do more training today? I'd really like to.. if you don't mind of course." Foxpaw shuffled his fluffy red paws in the dirt, his amber eyes averted. He had always been on she shy side, a trait of himself he hated.
The red she-cat came through the tunnel entrance with two lizards and a hare as her prey. She dropped them off at the fresh-kill pile, increasing its size. Sorrelpaw was pleased to see that today's hunting trips had made the pile larger. It was a good sight for Fireclan. She glanced around camp, hoping to see Waspfang before he saw her. Her dark greens eyes couldn't spot him. Her mentor was probably hiding away in the shadows as he did. With a sigh, the apprentice padded to the front of the apprentice den and waited. She knew he would come. Her small frame stayed still and her tail curled over her paws in anticipation.
He prowled toward her, his tail snaking along behind him as he came out of the dark, his almost yellow eyes stopping on Sorrelpaw and traveling no further. He stopped when he got to her, looking down upon her with no expression. "I see you've decided to come back to camp," he said coolly, "Are you ready to listen to your mentor as all the other apprentices do, oh great Sorrelpaw?" He narrowed his eyes, lashing his tail.
He nudged her roughly with a paw, although keeping a distance from her as if she were a piece of crowfood he didn't want to touch. "Up now, we're going to do some battle training. I expect your absolute best, you've no time to rest." He turned swiftly, and even though he said she had no time to rest he waited patiently at the camp's exit for her, giving her time to gather her thoughts and get to her paws.
The sandy brown deputy came through the tunnel not long after Sorrelpaw, walking rather awkwardly with the large hare half dragging between her front legs and the two deermice and ground squirrel swinging precariously from her jaw along with it. She had had to stop a few times along the way to adjust her grip and was glad they had finally reached the camp clearing the heat had scorched her pelt and made her uncomfortable despite the fact that she had live in the arid landscape her whole life.
Dusttail made her way over to the fresh-kill pile and added her catch to it relieved to finally be free of the weight of it. Her long legs were sore from the hunting and the long trek to and from the spring, especially the trek back with the prey that had been caught. She stretched hey limbs and her lean body before walking a short distance from the fresh kill pile and laying down in a slightly shaded area not bothering to move too farther than that even if she wasn't hungry yet. Her light green gaze trailed around the clearing noting that Coopertail likely returned to the nursery when she couldn't spot the firey pelted queen.
Amberpool stalked into the clearing, dropping the frog she'd held in her jaws to the fresh-kill pile. She turned to run her gaze over the members of her Clan, before a voice reached her ears.
The voice belonged to her apprentice, Foxpaw. She spun around, copper eyes meeting Foxpaw's, and ade her way toward him. With a devious grin, Amberpool touched his shoulder lightly with the tip of her tail.
"Well, that sounds like a good plan to me."
A light purr rumbled in her throat as she noted the young tom's caution.

Foxpaw lept to his paws in excitement. The young tom loved training, even if it were hard on him at times. He seemed to be desperate to prove his worth as a warrior, and a valuable member of the clan.
Crouching with a sly smile, he looked up at Amberpool. "What'll it be today?" He purred, swishing his thick red tail across the ground. "Hunting?" He pounced forward. swiping at a red rock. "Or fighting!" Foxpaw sprang forward and swiped at the rock with his paw, sending it scattering across the clearing.
Sitting back up, he licked at his chest fur, embarrassed, his amber eyes gazing at his paws.
Flamepaw swayed into the clearing, emerging from the dusty apprentice den eagerly, his fiery eyes scanning the bubbling camp. The young tom was eager to train, although he was unsure to where his mentor was. The adventurous tom perked up, tail raised as he saw his fellow apprentice Foxpaw talking to his own mentor with bursts of excitement. Flamepaw chuckled lightly, happy to see the shyer tom open up in camp. He longed to adventure with his friend, but decided to wait until his training session was finished.
Padding around aimlessly, the bulky tabby swirled some dust with his paws, watching as the dirt flew into the air briefly before landing in his fur. He huffed, looking around to the kill pile. Perhaps he would go hunting with Foxpaw later, they both needed to improve in that sense.
From the warrior den emerged a medium built lilac tabby. Her easy going eyes glanced around slowly as she saw the hoard of cats in the clearing. Her limbs extended into a much needed stretch before padding her way over to the crowd. She dipped her head respectively to the group of cats with a quiet purr, and a gentle smile on her maw. She stayed quiet, listening to the commotion of the group, a sweet laugh rumbling from her at the apprentices excitement to train.
Waspfang seemed to come from nowhere. His snake-like behavior unnerved her. When he nudged her, Sorrelpaw felt like he was treating her like a kit. Come on now, Sorrelpaw. She remembered Dusttail's words and held herself together. "Yes, Waspfang," she replied obediently. Sorrelpaw diligently followed her mentor, hoping he would be at least a little easy on her.
Hawkdawn came out of the warriors den greeted by the heat of the greenleaf sun. He sat in the shade near its entrance and watched all of his clan-mates move about the clearing carrying food from previous hunting trips, as well as warriors and apprentices trying to escape the heat that was blazing in the sandstone area. After a few minutes passed a gust of wind carried through camp making everyone seem to sigh in slight relief from the momentary break it brought.
He licked one of his paws, drawing it over his whiskers so they untangled themselves, returning to their typical well-kept, neat look. His tail brushed against Sorrelpaw's legs as he made a slow circle around her, studying her features, and then he stopped beside her, sitting close. "Where would you like to train?" He meowed quietly with a somewhat forced, amorous chime.
"Maybe somewhere cooler, out of the sun," he now placed his tail, which had previously been placed on his paws as usual, next to her, the tip resting on one of her paws. "To make sure you don't overwork yourself." He leaned in closer, his voice lowered to a hiss and his sharp teeth slightly bared in a sneer.
Sorrelpaw couldn't help but pull her face away from his. It was scary to see him up close. His fangs seemed as sharp as a snake's. His intimidating voice made it even worse. She struggled to speak up. "The training hollow has plenty of shade." Her voice was quiet, but not shaky. "Battle training would be fine there."
He slowly sat back up, getting to his paws and allowing his tail to sweep behind him, stirring some of the sand on the ground. He started out without waiting for her, his steps slow but his stride long. He twitched his ears forward, still alert for prey, as he began to the Training Hollow, his dark reddish-gold fur glinting beneath the ragged raven stripes as he pushed through the little amount of brush there was.
Sorrelpaw followed Waspfang to the training grounds. She cast one last glance behind her, wishing she could stay. The apprentice sighed and marched onward to the end of a long day.
